Sunset Safari

Photo: Romesh Athaide
Botswana beckoned
with a Chobe-river sunset cruise.

Drifting lazily
on a boat
watching wildlife appear
on the river bank
peeping between tall foliage
was breathtaking.
Elephants taking their last drink
midst hippos and crocodiles swimming by
drew gasps of wonder.

The day’s fatigue evaporated
in the glow of a fiery orb
playing hide-and seek
with a cluster of trees
leaning over to touch
the water lapping on serenely.

The sky, a symphony of
eye-popping color
signified the end of the day.

This sacred moment
was a reason t to adore Mother Nature
inspiring an upward mood swing.

A blend of reds, orange, and yellow
splashed across the world
mirrored in the calm, glossy water
now instantly candy colored.

Thhe hush of evening hung low
interrupted intermittently by
an Afrrican Jakana walking bird
walkingr across the water
on flimsy floating greens

What a perfect conclusion
to a God filled day!

Just beautiful images. Thank you , Viola! By the way, if you haven’t read any of Alexander McCall Smith’s book series “No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”, led by the intrepid Mma Ramotswe, do so. They will make you fall in love with Botswana too.
