Blessing for the Road

Source: thestar.com
May the peace of having a path
propel you.
May the stone in your shoe
be smooth.
May the sun burn only the wounds
you need cauterized.
May the rain remind you
of tears.
May the destination shimmer
in the distance
in and out of existence.
May forgiveness be the fuel
you keep burning through
forcing you every few miles
to stop and fill up.

Greg Kennedy, SJ works as a spiritual director at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph, Ontario. He is author of Reupholstered Psalms volumes I, II, and III; and Amazing Friendships between Animals and Saints (Novalis Press).
