I can not relax
in the company
of one who says continually
“I-am-not-guilty-I-am-not-guilty-
and-here’s-the-proof”
until I listen to words sculpted
in the tone of defence.
I hear below the skin
and realize they are trapped there.
And I feel for her
and harken with my whole being
trying to embrace her
with my ears.
