Tripping Over Self

Courtesy of Brendan McManus, SJThe beaten mind won't slip away,
To the oblivion of sleep,
And deep amidst the pounding drums,
I ponder while I weep.

O'er all of life's uncertainties,
Its challenges and traits,
I question all the ups and downs,
And grapple with the fates.

I wrestle with the ugly seeds,
Of twisted doubts and fears,
And wonder why my soul can't halt,
The weaknesses of years.

Then I recall that I am hid,
From forces dark and fell,
For in this weakness I am found,
By God… and all is well.
