The Acorn – A Whimsy

A funny thing occurred today,
As I was going on my way.
A tiny acorn yelled at me,
I am a little big, you see.Courtesy of flyingmeat.com

Before I stepped upon its case,
(A fate I'm sure it still will face)
I stopped and listened to his plea:
"Don't do it, man, you're just like me!

Your shell is tough (though eas'ly crushed),
Contemplative (though sometimes rushed),
You've some untarnished gloss (or paint?),
And sturdy cap (though rather quaint).

Behind the hard facade there lies,
An inner core, though small in size,
Rich and splendid, and may I state,
Occas'nally pleasant to sensate."

Perhaps he's right, but you know what?
He's referring, clearly, to a nut.
