A Principled, Foundational Climb

Source: telegraph.co.uk
Although my knees are shot,
they’re still drawn to this staircase
aching to ascend.
The steps are not the view, that’s true,
but nothing gets me there like they do:
one at a time, well placed,
a little effort each foot up,
plus the magic-marvel of walking
higher into a space
otherwise completely closed to me
but for this structure built
long before my making.
Back and forth stairs and legs
call and respond in harmony,
both attuned to ascension;
and although my knees are shot
achingly they step and step
and are stepped up
towards a full-on, flow-out, fear-free
panorama
where all is seen for miles around
so beautifully together.
