Away From the Block

Gather from a different place

your gut has spent its ways.

Like the ease of an old oak’s sprawling branches

with its tiny buds peering out in the spring

seeking new direction

while grounded in its past,

speak your speech, sing your song.

Your roots have welled up

releasing a new fragrance

as yet unnamed

the depths rise up to meet you

it’s alright to gather.
