Easter War – 2022

Post-Resurrection People
so to speak
wait in trenches
with heads down
and hearts in mouths
amid war-chewed ruins
exploded toys
for the propitious moment
when the Word most counts
wait
some forty days
that could be years
or maybe decades
not to say centuries
to go over the top
waving albs and deep-bleached stoles
in the boldest surrender ever seen
(drumroll, please)
crying “Ascension!”
“Up in Arms!”
stretched wider out
than hot Earth’s equator
in make-do-good suffering
that catches big bully war
in a crushing grizzly bear-hug
of everlasting peace.
