Beginning a new church calendar year

we start by pondering the distant past,

remembering centuries of the patient wait,

waiting for the promised One to come

waiting for our faithful God to act

to free us from the terror of our sins

counting off four Sundays once again

the purple, purple, pink, and purple ring

to the day we mark our saviour’s birth

born in time, Jesus, the Christ, the Lord, our King.

Looking forwards too we steel our hearts

to emulate the One who chose Bethlehem.

Our Christmas goal?   to try to love like Him

serving others, striving to stay free from sin.
