Hope

In the dreary, dark winterscape of my soul

hope springs into being, begins making me whole

Like dawn wakening the ocean, hope lights up my mind

glides on waves of surrender …. so hard to find

Hope flits through my spirit like fireflies at dusk

sprinkles my soul with graces to do what I must

Like a fire cheerily crackling on a cold winter night

hope shatters my darkness with life-giving light

Like birdsong in springtime, hope lifts my heart high

loosens the fetters of anger, brings freedom to cry

The light mantle of hope softly drapes me in calm

comforts my aching heart with a soothing balm

Then like a baby, content on his mother’s chest

my soul, gratefully, gradually, slips into rest
