Forgive us God for frustrating plants

for seedless grapes and cardboard

tomatoes

for the myriad of apples pruned

down to one mealy red delicious

for corn given to combustion

instead of digestion

for the Cavendish banana plagued

with survivor’s guilt

for the shy, retiring soy bean

pressed into imperialism

for rape seed disastrously named

for spruce trees in their prime

cut down for Christmas murder

for all the cells altered, adulterated, assaulted.
