God is teaching us –

1.  That we must love our neighbour as ourselves – especially in times of crisis.

2. That our neighbour is the Earth and all that lives on it.

3. That the Earth regenerates herself over time if left to heal.

4. That Mother Earth is showing us how to love her.

5. That we need a Saviour – we cannot save ourselves.

6. That God allows us to experience the consequences of our actions.

7. That, though some actions are fatal, we go on learning in an afterlife called Purgatory.
