A Prayer of Gratitude and Remembrance before Meals

Source: torontostar.com

Dearest Lord, for the food, drink and companionship of this meal, help us always to be grateful. We remember our brothers and sisters of all races in any need.

Give awareness, strength and resources to those who serve them.

Bless us O Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Paul Baker, SJ, is a Jesuit Brother in the ministry of prayer at Rene Goupil House in Pickering, Ontario.

Thank you Paul. I just watched a webinar sponsored by ECOJESUIT on agroecology for food system change. Dr. Vandana Shiva speaks about our need to offer gratitude to the Creator for all the food that is provided to us. And we can show our gratitude to God by returning to the soil what we don’t eat in order to restore the soil. Mind you we don’t want to return to the soil poisoned food.

Thank you Paul Baker for your prayer of gratitude. I just love the simplicity of it and am going to print it out and pray it before meals.

That’s a very nice addition to the standard, “Bless us O Lord’.’
