COVID – 19 and igNation
Our Lenten journey which began on February 26 has encountered something unexpected – the pandemic that is COVID – 19. As I write this on March 16, there have been 175,817 confirmed cases in 182 countries; 6,717 deaths and 77,871 recovered. In Canada there are 375 confirmed cases and 4 deaths.
People are alarmed and overwhelmed with information. They are also fearful. In his blog of March 7th, Father Philip Shano, SJ quoted an article about C0VID – 19 and Fear. As we continue our journey towards the Resurrection, Fr. Shano – in his Easter Sunday blog – offers some words that will help calm the fear.
Here is an excerpt from Fr. Shano’s Easter Sunday’s blog to be posted on April 12th:
“St. Ignatius of Loyola suggests that those praying with the Resurrection of the Lord consider the divinity, which seemed to hide itself during the passion, now appearing and manifesting itself so miraculously in the most holy Resurrection in its true and most sacred effects.
Among the strongest effects is a release from fear. We are told over and over in scripture to not fear, to not worry, and to be at peace. What a gift it could be if we could remember that each day, regardless of what shocks come to us or what causes fear or what happens in the world in which we dwell.”
As well, believing it will help, igNation encourages its readers to consider sharing the way COVID- 19 has impacted their lives. by writing an article which they would submit to firstname.lastname@example.org for posting.
