Canada 150 & Me – Community

A sense of pride in our country was filling everyone’s hearts as thousands of people came to the ceremony. Just as it began, the national anthem was sung, and I can truly say, I have never felt more Canadian than in that moment.

Thousands of Canadians, singing their hearts out to the song of their country. Everyone that was working for Vimy was very helpful and always ensured everyone was doing okay throughout the day. When asked “and where are you guys from?” I could say my hometown of Orillia, close to Toronto, and people knew it.

It was interesting how, even in another part of the world, I found people I knew from back home – past teachers, principals, and friends from other schools. It made me feel a sense of community from back home in Canada all the way in Europe. The event was truly one of a lifetime, and I feel honoured to have had the privilege to experience such an event, as a proud Canadian.
