Christina Crook's 2015 book, "The Joy of Missing Out - Finding Balance in a Wired World" is rooted in her own Internet fast and she advocates such a thing for others....

Psalms are of several types: hymns or public praise of God to be sung during religious ceremonies; laments, either public for use on fast days and during times of danger; thanksgiving, which proclaim God's goodness and glory but differ from hymns in that they narrate the sufferer's distress, his appeal for assistance, and God's answer; psalms of confidence; and "wisdom" psalms which treat the ethical themes of "wisdom" literature....

A recent study has confirmed that humans got the most deadliest form of malaria from our western gorilla cousins. .. Each year there are several hundred million cases of clinical malaria and more than one million deaths from malaria (over 2700 deaths per day). It used to be thought that the bad air of swamps caused such deaths. We now know of course that mosquitoes, regular inhabitants of swamps, act as the vector for the blood-borne malarial disease....

Seven years ago, Fr. Bill Robins, SJ took a summer break from his work in Kathmandu to visit his native Canada. During the summer of 2016, Bill again made a visit to Canada. This summer was different for this time Bill was also able to join with a group of friends and relatives to enjoy a delightful tour of Newfoundland....

Labour Day means that another summer is coming to an end. It's always good for us to take stock of where we find ourselves in early September. There is the danger of criticizing ourselves or of reducing the taking stock" to what has been accomplished or achieved? Or, worse, what has not been achieved!"...

The measure of success of any school can only be the quality of the students that it turns out. Mission and Vision statements, mottos, etc., have to be validated by the outcomes of the school's educational project. So if there is a claim of academic excellence, then the students' academic performance at the end of their time in the school and in subsequent levels of education has to prove the claim. Similarly with any other stated goal or claim. Where's the proof?...
