Why We Sent Our Sons to St. Paul’s High School, a Jesuit school.

My husband and I believed that when it was time for our children to begin school there was no doubt they would attend a Catholic School and when they reached High School the obvious choice was St. Paul’s.  When friends were told our children were attending St. Paul’s High School, they automatically thought of the academics as opposed to academics and spiritual learning combined.   Yes, education is very important but not the only piece that makes St. Paul’s a great school.  We believe it is just as important to understand and grow spiritually with God and knew St. Paul’s would provide this for our children.

With society so busy today individuals forget about our spiritual being.  We believe that spirituality comes from not only learning about God, but also to practice what we have been taught.  DylanIt’s not about how to be a perfect individual, but a person who is intellectually competent, conscientious, open to growth, loving and compassionate towards mankind.  Through the years I saw my two sons Dylan (now a graduate) and Dawson become more loving, kinder, compassionate and always wanting to help someone without having to think about it before acting on it.

DawsonSt. Paul’s high school has the ability to make every student, parent, teacher and staff feel like one big community.  I hear of wonderful stories of the students helping each other and also in the community in the time of need.  Whether it was providing someone they didn’t know in a different grade with a piece of clothing so they would not be penalized for a dress code violation, providing support when a classmate has lost a loved one or doing grocery shopping for the elder.  There is no adult telling them to act on these good deeds it is just second nature to them due to the everyday teachings of God within the school environment.  Dawson ( 3rd from the left) with other coaches from the Special Olympics. The school fosters retreats at every grade, which we believe, is a key component in helping our children understand and become closer with each other, within the communities and thus with God.  Our children are a gift from God so we have to ensure those gifts are shared with mankind as God intended.  Dawson is an active volunteer on Saturdays with Special Olympics helping athletes.  He always finishes with a smile and shares loving stories of the athletes.  We see him growing into a wonderful young man who will have much to share and this is thanks to the beliefs and teachings in the whole community of St. Paul’s High School.

We are truly blessed.

Ron and Pam Braun chose a Jesuit school in Winnipeg - St. Pauls's -for their sons. Pam is a parent representative on the school's Mission and Vision Committee.
