JVC Day
Jesuit Volunteers Canada (JVC) is a formation program, where young adults live out the values of Christian spirituality, social and eco-justice, community, and simple living. This Sunday Jesuit Volunteers Canada invites you to join in supporting JVC DAY. It is a day that people from across Canada will pray with us in hope that young men and women will be inspired to serve Christ and to discover more deeply his call for them through JVC.
On September 1st, JVC welcomed three JVs into the program. These JVs will be living in community and carrying out their ministry in Toronto in a number of different and important placements. As part of the program they also have community nights, spirituality nights, spiritual direction, and attend overnight retreats.
Erica is from Vegreville, Alberta, and just completed a degree at the University of Alberta. While there she studied English and Christian Theology. She is working with homeless men and women at the St. John the Compassion Mission in downtown Toronto, helping to create the sense of community and belonging that are required for successful participation in the drug rehabilitation, improved housing and employment programs organized by the Mission.
Louise is from London, Ontario and graduated from Brescia University College (part of the University of Western Ontario). While at university she majored in Philosophy and minored in Environment and Culture. She is working with Becoming Neighbours, welcoming newcomers to Canada and helping to secure housing for them and supporting their integration into community in Canada.
Joshua is a new graduate from the Religion and Culture department at St. Thomas More College and the University of Saskatchewan, located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He will work at two different placements: with Canadian Jesuits International, he will support fundraising and the execution of several Jesuit initiatives around the world and at Seeds of Hope, he will assist in programs at the organization’s Community Learning Centres, working with men and women in transition.
JVC is a formation program that helps young adults make significant contributions to the lives of others and forms them through this meaningful and transformative experience in living out the Gospel. Placement opportunities include working with First Nations communities, young adult programing, community development and outreach, education, food justice, and working with the urban poor.
JVC is currently accepting applications for September 2016 with possible communities and work placements in northern Ontario, Toronto and Regina.
Please tell the young adults you know (nieces and nephews, sons and daughters, grandchildren, students, neighbours, and friends) who would personally benefit from the JVC experience about the program and encourage them to connect with JVC and learn more about this engaging formation opportunity.
