Close to Winter

The beauty of coal-coloured trunk and branches
goes unnoticed as foreground to a dark-grey sky.
Now late in the December day
the street-light shines its warm-bright-
goldenness below it.
The cat’s paws impress the immaculate snow
and usher in the winter’s time
as those black branches reach out majestically, quietly
slowly melting into the darkening blank-slate heavens.

Here is the poem in its entirety:

    CLOSE TO WINTER

The beauty of coal-coloured trunk and branches
goes unnoticed as foreground to a dark-grey sky.
Now late in the December day
the street-light shines its warm bright-goldenness below it.
The cat’s paws impress the immaculate snow
and usher in the winter’s time
as those black branches reach out majestically, quietly
slowly melting into the darkening blank-slate heavens.
