After Covid 19

For the past year we have been inundated with so much conflicting information about a virus that has the whole world in its clutches. It hit us like a tsunami coming out of nowhere, and we are still gasping from its deadly attack.

As I ponder about what it will be like once Covid-19 is behind us, I find myself smiling. There are many things I would love to do. However, I will probably hug all the people I have missed hugging, so watch out, here comes Viola.

The loss of live human interaction has been frustrating. It is so important to our wellbeing. Social distancing is a necessity now, but human touch means a lot. Being a people person, I can see myself having small get togethers when we can mingle, chat, and of course eat. That will force me back into the kitchen to cook and bake.  I love entertaining, and have been starved of that joy.

If I bake, I end up eating the goodies, and have sadly developed a Covid belly.

Right now, we have to follow too many rules and regulations, albeit for our own good. The freedom of doing what I want, when I want, without the feeling of being trapped indoors is a delight that I look forward to.

I will admit that Zoom is the glue currently holding us together, and am grateful for it. However, I have experienced too many Zoom hiccups. It would be great to meet in person and share our thoughts, and facial expressions without hiding behind a mask.

Going to the movies, and eating a gourmet dinner in a fancy restaurant will be a good date night, that is, if my husband would like to do that.

Knowing him, he will probably be ready to whisk me off to a far-off destination on another exotic holiday. He loves planning trips, and our staycations are certainly not his cup of tea. He keeps talking about South America, because so far, the only country we have visited there is Peru. I am glad that I climbed Machu Picchu when I was younger.

I am not a shopper, but just the thought of browsing in a mall, window shopping, is an exciting prospect. I can’t believe that I am actually saying that!!

Perhaps the wedding receptions that were postponed will eventually happen, or on second thought, that is wishful thinking on my part, because the moment has passed.

I have missed going to church on a regular basis, so am really looking forward to worshipping in a full church with the choir singing, and receiving the Eucharist joyfully. I won’t be afraid to sneeze or cough with all eyes looking in my direction.

I feel that I have lost a whole year of watching my grandchildren grow. So, I can see myself wanting them for sleep overs to just spoil them, and listen to their interesting stories.

Hooray for a proper routine, in that I won’t be lounging around the house. I will actually be dressed up and driving somewhere, anywhere, after being cooped up for so long.

Now for a laugh. Two monks were walking together. One asked the other, “What wave of the virus is this?” to which the other replied, “I’ve lost count. There is only one wave I care about.”

“Which one is that?” asked the curious monk. With his hand lifted up, the monk waved and said, “Goodbye.”

I sincerely hope that I will be saying Goodbye to Covid-19 sooner than later. God willing.
