A Covid Easter Memorial

Two flower bouquets, white lilies, arrive,
one placed carefully on the table shrine
with the soft beige marble urn of ashes.
Just ten may come to pray for Mary today.
Organ swells to commence a simple service.
The priest intones some gentle welcome words.
An ancient pattern of holy worship enthralls
the content few allowed here to mourn and stay.

Against a stark deadly cross of knotted wood
and somber grey brown cemetery grounds
already replete with stones and souls’ remains,
Lighted Easter Candle, Word, Bread and Wine
proclaim the happy hope of Paschal tide
and longing for the future joyful trumpet time.
