What We Believe: Part 2 – Fidelity of God’s People

We do not know what God intended for Adam and Eve and all their descendants if they had proven their friendship by obeying what He told them to do.We know that they lost the right to live in the Garden of Eden along with special gifts like not having to die.

But God still loved them and  made sure that nothing  disastrous happened . that would jeopardize what  God had in mind. The whole scenario is told in a human way in a series of books that comprise what we know as the Bible. The major part of the account is contained in the section known as the Old Testament. That portion contains the whole sequence from the fall of Adam and Eve until the coming among us of Jesus Christ.. During those many years, even centuries, nothing disastrous happened to end what God was preparing for His greatest of all interventions, the birth of Jesus Christ.

The consequences of a major flood were avoided by God warning the Prophet Noah who responded to God’s warning of a flood and thus saved his family and living creatures.  Later God worked through the prophet Abraham  and revealed to him that he would be the father of many descendants. When these descendantshad become slaves in Egypt, God worked through His prophet Moses for their escape from slavery and then for their forty yers of safe living in the desert until they could take possession of the promided land of Palestine.

There were many ups and downs including exile in Babylon but the land was again intact when Jesus  Christ was born. All of this history in a digest form is presented in the new Catechism  (50-64)

Who is Jesus Christ and  what part does He play in this account of God’s master plan for the human race is contained in the  New Testament section of the Bible and  in the major portion of the new Catechism..

Briefly, what we believe about Jesus Christ is contained in the formula of belief known as the Apostles Creed. A lengthy section of  the new Catechism beginning with paragraph (26) explains each statement of belief  in that Creed.

Our explanation will be more general and more specific by including events in the life of Christ  that, we trust, will help us to appreciate the tremendous Gift from God that is Jesus Christ.
