Baby Sitting
Two little ones huddle with me under the feather tick
in mum and dad’s bed.
hiding from the night kitchen noises
–utensils falling, scurrying and cracking sounds–
imagining creatures of the dark,
unconcerned about the unlocked house.
We drowse until lights and slam of car doors
signal instant flight to our upstairs beds.
