Eternal Life Insurance

Taking out insurance on property, on travel, on health, and on one's life is recommended as prudent and a wise safeguard. In remuneration for an accident or fire or whatever is unforeseen one is reimbursed for a certain amount depending on the amount requested.

If we apply the same kind of prudent action to what we can call "Eternal Life" insurance, the premiums are miniscule compared to the forthcoming compensation . We can say and rightly so that the compensation is "out of this world."  Of course we are referring to eternal happiness with God in the life that He wants to give us at the time of one's death in this world.

The premiums are so minimal that it is difficult to understand why anyone would hesitate to take out such an Eternal Life Insurance policy with so handsome a payment guaranteed. Just what is the required premium?  We are asked by God to believe in Him now and to live as one of His friends in this life.  What assurance do we have that all of this is real and attainable and guaranteed of being fulfilled if we do our part by paying what we are calling the "premium"?

The answer is that the Guarantor is God Himself, in the Person of Jesus Christ, His Son. Jesus Christ came to this earth and lived like us and as one of us, sin excepted, and assured us that He wants us to be with Him in heaven forever. To prove that what He promised is guaranteed, He gave His human life  by dying on a cross after excruciating sufferings. And then after three days He rose from the dead as He had foretold. Then He began to appear to His followers, spoke to them, ate with them in HIs newly resurrected body.

After about forty days of appearing periodically in this new way, He rose up to heaven to be with His heavenly Father to wait for us to join Him for all eternity as He had foretold and promised. His followers were so convinced that all of this was true and really happened that they gladly gave their own lives rather than to deny any of it as true. And the followers of Jesus even to this day are ready to do the same if threatened with death.

In reflecting on what God has done for us and on what He wants to do for us, the question is raised, why would He want us to be with in heaven forever  The only adequate answer is that God is love and everything He does for us is due to His love. It can be compared to how husbands and wives relate to each other in fulfilling their marriage contract. They give themselves freely to each other because of their mutual love. The response to will you marry me must be freely given. That is the nature of love. If not freely given then it is not love.

All our responses to God are to be given freely out of love. That is why God gave us a free will so we could show our love for Him. Loving God in this life is the premium for the Eternal Life Insurance Policy. And only you can give your heart to God just as wives and husbands give their hearts to each other out of love.
