Scott Lewis, SJ, who teaches New Testament at Regis College in Toronto, recently presented the webinar series New Interpretations of the Holy Week Stories. He examined the Holy Week texts in light of recent theological trends and questions. On March 2, 2021, during the presentation “Did Jesus Come to Die on the Cross?”, Fr. Scott looks at the life of Jesus, specifically at the cross and crucifixion of Christ and the meanings that have been given to them over the years. Some of these interpretations are life-giving, others are death-giving. Jesus showed us that we do not know God and he came to show us the truth of God.

Very interesting and informative. There is a lot to learn and I believe that the historical part of the story having been written years after the event and by different people then translated so many times are all facts which we have to allow for. Faith needs to play a big part when reading the Bible and trying to close my mind to all these trivial differences and live according to the example of Jesus is the important message of the whole story. Thank you.
