Not Quite Spring Here in Winnipeg!

Not quite Spring here in Winnipeg!
Plus temperatures,
wet pavements
are a tease.
Tires still spit specks
clouding windshields,
camouflaging speeding cars
on dirty gray city streets.
I long for
– slivers of light green
transforming bland lawns;
– yellow dandelions
pushing through muck;
– swelling buds
on wan skeletal trees;
– blue/mauve lilacs
scenting dusty air;
-warming sun
thawing my bones;
– cumulus clouds
cushioning bitter musings;
– a blue vault of heaven
lightening my heart.

Frank Obrigewitsch, SJ, is pastor of St. Ignatius parish in Winnipeg.

    March muddles many, and yet we live in hope. Happy Easter, my friend.

    17 C forecast for today….but this is Winterpeg and it is March….so don’t put your snow shovels away , Frank. The really good news is that there is only 14 more days till Easter! Richard

    This is a song for the coming of Spring,
    We’re tired of Winter, so let’s all sing.
    After a Winter of snow and ice,
    The first signs of Spring are really nice!

    I wrote this and a few more verses in 1981 when I was teaching my first class of grade 1/2 students.

      Let’s hope our singing
      Prods the bringing on
      Of spring!
      Thanks Sidney.
