igNation’s Seventh Anniversary
From 1632 to 1673, Jesuit missionaries in New France – as Canada was known – wrote letters to their superiors in France describing not only their missionary work but also their observations about the life and times of the local people. These widely read letters were published each year as The Jesuit Relations.
Today the Jesuits in Canada along with our collaborators and friends write articles and poems for igNation − (www.ignation.ca) a blog which observes our present time and which aims to accompany us on our pilgrimage. You are invited to walk with us as we write about our culture, our daily lives, our seasons and our spirituality.
On Ash Wednesday, February 13, 2014, igNation posted its first article. “As if we had never been.” written by Kevin Burns – Ottawa based writer and editor. This first post received 512 hits. In the seven years since then we have posted 2,523 entries and received over 3,542 comments. Over 900 subscribers receive igNation every day.
The posts have been called “inspiring”, “the articles insightful and the prayers inspirational.” The look is seen as “fresh, intimate and inviting.” Another reader wrote: “Excellently done and bravo! The over-all impression is that the posts are low-key, light-hearted with all of them carrying a solid message.”
What do we see in the future? Since 2014, 309 people – from all walks of life – have written for us. We are always looking for articles, reviews, poems dealing with our culture, our daily lives, our seasons, and our spirituality. We are looking for more contributors.
