Our Lady

Guadalupe sells off-season roses
through the “New World’s” first affirmative action hire,
who finally cut through clerical, old-country constipation
and got her built the church of her dreams.

Happily ever after…
once you discount the Conquista, US expansionism,
indigenous extirpation, drug wars, border walls,
diabetes and refugees.

Happily ever after
in her blue starry shawl and burnished gold amoeba,
watching  the long chain of Americas
with her tender look that asks “WHY”
so serenely in the absence of any question marks.
