Psalm 124

Source: sadanduseless.com
If God had not been on our side—
Hey, civilization! Pay attention!—
if God had not been on our side
when progress rushed the stage,
we all would have been stomped
into the ground, or starved,
or fed as fuel to great steam-engines
thundering somewhere with all
that speed and severity
so common to innovation.

Thanks be to God
that all of us are not
stuck in shopping malls,
nor bailing a rising sea out of our bedrooms.
Some have escaped the vice-lock
disaster between the First and Third Worlds.
God indeed saves;
but why so few of so many?

Thank you, Fr Greg, for so clearly putting your finger on the problem, for today!
