Psalm 121

The mountains reach down and pick up
my eyes; on their peaks they wear them
seeing distances hard for my landlocked
sight to perceive.
Who will lift me to their vision?
A God of long looking,
a God who never snoozed,
who never sleeps
yet equally whose dreams
never cease.
God: a tireless Sherpa
an airlift
the same watchful mountain
my body trembles to ascend.
God is height
and the instinct to climb,
our guide and our safety protocol
but most of all
our insatiable thirst for adventure.
