Re-Genesis

Say it, God. Say it again:
LET THERE BE LIGHT
at this eleventh hour
on this fierce day
past, long past the goodness
of the sixth
and the ease of the seventh.

fires in every forest
drag a pall across the sun;
sooty gloom the sum
of their unholy flames
LET THERE BE LIGHT
all the weight
of hearts turned stone
or stone turned heavy hearts—
who knows?—
groans beneath the growing chains
of gravity
LET THERE BE LIGHT
say it God,
is that too hard?
speak it out before our blindness
is complete,
for by then—
who knows?—
(who knows?)
WHO KNOWS?
what light will mean?

Love this poem! Really speaks of the present time, of collective darkness and fear! Thank you, Fr. Greg!

Here in Australia in the past month we have seen more than our fair share of “fires… drag[ging] a pall across the sun.” We pray for light, glorious light – physical, metaphorical, spiritual – to light up our lives and dispel the “sooty gloom”.
