Away in a Manger

not just a Word
but a Name
and not just a Name
but an Embrace
of mouth and ear
speaking deepest identity
in the dovetail joint
of forever togetherness.
Oh Baby!
Ooh Baby!
God born a cooper needle
in a crazy golden haystack
bigger and brighter
than the entire frothy Milky Way:
that’s how you pronounce “Love”
in the attic above sound
and in the basement below language.
Oh Baby!
a Word
a Name
a Glad-You-Came
like no other spoken
like no other heard,
yet here we all are
dull, yokel shepherds
getting by just fine
managing the purest niceties
in the high idiom of Angels.
