Friendly Trinity

The Trinity is a friend
I meet with most Tuesdays
for coffee at Timmy’s
in three separate cities.

Although it was agreed
somewhere along the way
that each take turns buying,
I never have to pay.

I know they’re good friends
because after we speak
they plant our paper cups,
which then grow into trees.

It proves we are friends;
it proves we are one
when wild forests are left
where our chatting is done.

Greg Kennedy, SJ works as a spiritual director at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph, Ontario. He is author of Reupholstered Psalms volumes I, II, and III; and Amazing Friendships between Animals and Saints (Novalis Press).
