you get between

O bloody body crucified

O Spirit of protest

and pure acceptance

the tails of so many

stubborn, kicking donkeys

are pinned to you

they pierce you through

yet for all the party cries

no one wins the prize

forgive us we pray

for fouling your stage

for dumping our load

smack in the middle

of your awful crossroad

            stopping traffic

            causing havoc

            pulling Spirit-sighs

            from your sunken chest

            settled deeply now in rest

            and pure protest

            flush against the wood.
