Waste

   the fridge a coffin

   for dead animals

        decomposing

sacrifice after sacrifice

      so may children

of the priestly privileged

              Levites

         saying yuck

        to cold cuts

       gone green

in clear plastic drawers

the humming Temple

spills light and frigid air

      when prayed at

sin offerings forgotten

behind half-emptied jars

       of sated pleasures

          sin forgotten

      because sacrifice

        after sacrifice

             is cheap

          cheaper still

when bought in bulk

         everything

      in that coffin

    once breathed

either sunshine or spirit

      the same as us

  but the priestly class

       eats privileged

      pleasing God

  by wasting meat

      sin offerings

          happily

     excessively

     mindlessly

        made

cruel irony utterly lost.

I find your image: fridge a coffin for dead animals… very challenging. I’ve got much about which to ponder including my reasons for consuming ‘meat’ . Thanks, Earl

This one speaks loudly and clearly, at least to me. Thanks Greg 🙂
