I watched an ant crawl quietly
on a table’s white expanse,
inch by inch it crept along
to a scattered sugar spill.
Along the path it met
teacups, forks, and spoons,
tiny plates and serviettes
around it happily strewn.
I marveled how this ant
with its courage, strength and hope,
persevered through many odds
to reach its sweetened goal.
If only I could be
a little like this ant,
I’d scale the mighty mountains
and cross the raging seas.
But oft times fears arrive
that drown us every day,
in a deluge of doubling doubt
as courage is whisked away.
I know there is a loving plan*
and for us life has a purpose,
to meet each new found challenge
in Christ’s great strength and peace.

*I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord,
plans for your welfare, not for woe!
plans to give you a future full of hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
