I saw him daily,
sauntering up and down the beach in Jamaica,
pushing a battered cello
on a wobbly trolley
with broken wheels
attentive,
hoping for an inviting nod
the weathered fingers
pluck the cords
on the broken wooden body
wholesome music fills the air
with the soft percussion of waves
applauding

keeping the rhythm
one tiny, solitary bird
chirps a solo
heard above the din
of sunbathers nearby
boughs laden with green leafs
bow in appreciation.
