Taunting Temptation

Source: godsbreathpublications.com

Temptation tickles my thoughts

and trickles down

into action.

Where did the resolute resolve go?

It seems lost in a Lenten haze

of frantic fervor

born of impulsive ambition

so soon slipping away.

I feed on God’s Word,

and yet I’m trapped

in an on-going battle

of want and desire,

longing for freedom from all

that often tries

to separate me from the Almighty.

Our fragile lives

hang in the balance

of right and wrong

good and evil,

and like the pendulum

that swings back and forth

I look to the Savior

to truly free me

from what chains me,

glory, honor, power….

You too struggled

being so human,

yet your divinity reached up

to the Father

who delivered you

from the daily anguish

as you escaped into silent prayer.

You are the suffering servant

showing me the way

to healing and wholeness,

and now a thankful sigh

fills my being

and lifts me to new heights.
