Disharmony

Source: voanews.com

Music filled the air

midst the excitement of

fun lovers

lost in the joy of rhythm and

euphoric beats

until

the tone turned

suddenly sour

as gun shots punctuated

the night

followed by those

screams of sirens

and people in a panic.

Blood spattered faces

gazed silently back

at anxious onlookers

crying, calling,

WHY?

Where is God?

But God was present

in the love of strangers

helping strangers

holding those whose breaths

grew shallow

from the slow ebb

of bright red blood

oozing out

on the crazy stage of life.

Evil air had blown in,

and what was once life giving

was now covered

by the death knell.

Will it ever end?

This senseless shooting

repeats itself

and the world yells,

then settles back

into a strange normalcy.

Powerfully said. Thank you Viola. I found it to be a good poem to pray with, in these days of advent “waiting in joyful hope”, a “joyful hope” laced with tears, that might help us see clearly and imagine a way back to harmony.
