Psalm 131

Source: tributeperfectmemorials.com

I’ve been written in sand,

and even if the rains don’t

wash me out,

wind or bare, playful feet

will disperse me.

I’ve never been more than my anonymity.

Yet I’ve dreamed the boldness

that signs wet cement

then stands and watches

it harden into well-travelled sidewalk.

But even there cracks

will run and parse my name

into fragments.  I am as well

those fissures, quiet and unhurried,

giving seed and rain

fresh passage to earth.

In the end that wizened

wild camomile finally taken

root in my cracked and crumbling

name, yes, that very same

dusty sprig of sickly green,

O Lord, is also me.

Hope! yesterday, today, tomorrow.
