Pedestals

Unlike old wine

dismantled pedestals echo the memory

of their upright shadows

and commonalities point to their darkness

as though it was still real.

Shadows die hard:

only experience and time will dissipate them.

They remain imprinted

on the eyes of the naïve.

Dismantled pedestals

no longer block the view

of a sun, rising.
