Prayer Always Helps

I recently moved the items from my art studio to my home, and when I faced all of the work ahead of me, I looked around and felt like a good cry. Then I heard the Holy Spirit speak to my heart: “Just sit down, Joan, and take your prayer book, and quiet yourself through some prayer time.”Source: shutterstock.com

That’s all it took. I got up and tackled the job of wrapping fifty paintings with renewed energy and then, God sent an extra person to help me. The job was completed faster than I ever expected and my peace was maintained.

The sincerity of opening our hearts, making an effort to eliminate the secular world from our minds, and to give the Lord our full attention, is very important.

Jesus will always help us to discipline ourselves to get the jobs done, and to do them well.

Each of us has special devotions and personal prayer choices. There is no magic prayer that works better than another one. I try to say the fifteen St. Bridget prayers every day, because I find that to meditate about Jesus’ death on the cross, and His suffering, is a reminder for me of how very little my crosses are in comparison to those that He suffered for us.

Of course, there are lots of times when I slip up, but the reality is that my life is now very different and I know that I am not travelling this journey alone.

A prayer that changed my attitude years ago has within it these words of encouragement:

“Holy Ghost, God of peace and joy. I lay my life at your feet. Empty this heart of selfishness and fill it with grace. Shine out in me so that those around me may feel Your Holy Presence in their life.”

Life today is full of distractions. We believers are privileged to know that the source of all goodness and help with our daily battles…. is always near, and waiting to answer our prayers.
