The Sligo Hospital. Sligo, Ireland.

The wet Mall pavement reflects the quiet evening light;

Grey envelopes the Sligo Hospital.

Of a sudden, a quadrillion crows

Burst chittering into the sky

Reeling over the darkening scene

Flocking momentarily to the car park

Then heeding the sign warning

"FOR HOSPITAL PARKING VIOLATORS,

APPROPRIATE ACTION WILL BE TAKEN"

Tumultuously rise like wind driven leaves

And finally settle, complaining,

in the black Beech and Chestnut trees.

Frank Obrigewitsch, SJ, is pastor of St. Ignatius parish in Winnipeg.
