Helpmates of God

What a different world this would be if each of us woke up and said to the Lord: “This is the day that You have given me. I am at Your service. Show me how I can best serve You throughout this day. Amen.”

I know; that isn’t too realistic. Most of us jump out of bed, into the shower, and play catch up for the first hour, so that we are not late for work, or a meeting, or daily Mass. But just imagine if we really tuned in to the Holy Spirit, and took our daily agenda from that inner voice that speaks to us whenever we pause to listen.Source: integratedcatholic;ife.com

St. John Paul II liked to say: “Be not afraid.” That is not an easy task in the world in which we live. Every day we hear of terrorist attacks, refugees in search of a new place to live, laws that propose assisted suicide, and other abuses suffered by human beings. There is much suffering in the world and God really needs us to increase our daily prayers.

When Mother Mary Angelica, the founder of EWTN died, and I happened upon the news of her death the next day, I made a point of spending several hours that week watching testimonies of her life’s work and achievements. She was not afraid of anyone or anything. She stood up to everyone who wanted to stop the mission she felt that God had given to her. Her devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament made her strong, determined and though she had to suffer the last 15 years of her life in silence, due to a stroke, she used that time to pray. The result was an increase in vocations, a wider television audience, and many conversions to the Catholic faith.

To all those women who are seeking ordination to the priesthood, I suggest that they follow the example of Mother Angelica. God made us different on purpose, and gave us strength in varied ways. By His grace, we can accomplish great acts of service if only we would use the gifts and talents He has given to us.

Let us look to Our Lady, who is the greatest example of a Woman of Faith and Helpmate of God.

Joan Levy Earle was an author and artist living in Cornwall, Ontario. She was the former Associate Editor of the Canadian Messenger of the Sacred Heart magazine.
